Pre-College Program Announcement: COVID-19 Impact

May 19, 2021

While we were hopeful for a return to face-to-face instruction for youth programs as early as this summer, UC Davis has announced that full in-person activities for all students will be resuming in fall quarter 2021. In light of this announcement, we are moving our Summer at UC Davis Programs online once again. This summer, along with Equine Science, we will also be offering our Coastal & Marine Sciences and Environmental Toxicology Programs online! Plus, we’ve added new Immersion Programs to our mix and our College Preparation Programs are still available for enrollment. Please feel free to email us at with any questions. We hope to see you (virtually) this summer!

With 2020 behind us and summer quickly approaching, we are actively preparing for a brighter, on-campus future. Our Pre-College Program staff and instructors are all working toward a single goal: offering a full portfolio of programs for college-bound students, including a wide array of online options as well as our in-person Summer at UC Davis programs.

While UC Davis intends to be in-person this fall, face-to-face summer instruction is still dependent on state and local health guidelines. Here are just a few of the things UC Davis is doing to help move things forward:

  • UC Davis has introduced a robust COVID-19 plan to ensure that UC Davis is “campus ready”

  • As reported by the New York Times and other national media, UC Davis has implemented a groundbreaking, community-wide approach for successfully navigating the pandemic

  • UC Davis’ COVID-19 vaccination program is well underway and will continue to build momentum in the coming weeks and months

  • UC Davis’ top researchers are collaborating to battle COVID-19 in compelling ways from many angles

We understand that as you begin to make plans for your summer, questions may arise. Please don't hesitate to email us at with any questions.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted a lot of things in life, and our Pre-College Program has not been immune to those changes. But, like you, we've adapted, and we're excited to announce that our Equine Science program will be offered online this summer.

Running August 3-14, this two-week, online program will deliver UC Davis' renowned academics, research and passion for equine right to your home. Equine Science will offer:

  • engaging online lectures
  • live virtual tours of the UC Davis Horse Barn
  • opportunities to practice care techniques for equine via video demonstrations
  • a chance to meet the UC Davis Equestrian Team and other student in the fields

To understand how you can ensure the best online experience, review our technical requirements. Please feel free to email us at with any questions. We hope to see you (virtually) in August!

April 17, 2020

On April 10, UC Davis Chancellor Gary May announced that remote instruction at UC Davis would be extended through the summer. There is a possibility that the call for remote instruction may affect all of our programs, including the Coastal & Marine Program which is scheduled to take place at the Bodega Marine Lab in August.

We are now considering potential modifications to this year’s programs:

  • Date Changes

We are currently in discussion with our instructors and housing directors to determine if it is possible to postpone Equine Science and Theater to August 2-14; Coastal and Marine Science would not change and still take place August 3-14.

With this revised schedule in mind, program deadlines would be adjusted.
  • Remote or Online Instruction

In the event that we are not able to alter the dates of the program, we are exploring the possibility of remote online instruction with our instructors. We will only offer an online program if it will provide a rich learning experience for our students comparable to the learning outcomes of our normally scheduled programming.
  • Cancellation

The health and safety of our students, staff and instructors is our primary concern. If we are unable to postpone or provide a quality experience via remote instruction, we may determine that cancellation is necessary.

As decisions are made, updates will be made to the website. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us via email at
